Ashok Singhal slams UPA Govt’s soft approach on Chinese incursions

Chennai, Sep 20 : The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Ashok Singhal on Sunday criticised the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government for not taking any action against the recent reports of Chinese incursions.

Speaking after inaugurating the VHP’s official website here Ashok Singhal said: "We are not a coward people, we are a coward state… coward government. Anybody comes here and takes a piece of our land and we don''t protect our boundaries. This is what is happening in our country.”

New Delhi, Sep. 9 : Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Ashok Singhal on Wednesday accused BJP leader LK Advani of taking out the Rath Yatra for personal political gain.

Advani, he said, should now think about stepping down from the post of Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha.

He also noted that the BJP had deviated from its founding policies and that is the reason for its apparent `sinking'.

VHP, Bajrang Dal call for shutdown in Jammu

Jammu, May 8 : The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bajrang Dal on Friday called for a shutdown in protest against atrocities being committed on Hindus and Sikhs by the Taliban in Pakistan.

Appealing to the Indian Government to exert pressure on Pakistan against the Taliban, the activists blocked the Jammu-Pathankot Highway.

They also damaged vehicles and forced shopkeepers to down the shutters of their shops.

Incidents of violence were reported from some places. The police also beat up some protestors in Satwari.

New Delhi, May 1: Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) chief has appreciated the inclusion of suggestions given by Dharma Raksha Manch in the election manifesto of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

"The election manifesto of the Bhartiya Janata Party not only mentions these 11 points but also defines the bases of development in the country keeping Indian values in mind. I think this is an issue to be taken care of. They have clearly mentioned in the 13th para of the manifesto that spirituality should be base of development," Singhal said, addressing a news conference here.

Ahmedabad, Apr 24: Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Ashok Singhal on Friday said his organisation would support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to win the ongoing general elections.

Solemn festivities mark Christmas for riot hit Orissa

Kandhamal (Orissa), Dec 26 : Somber celebrations marked Christmas for Christians living in the shadow of communal violence that rocked their lives earlier this year in Kandhamal district of Orissa.

Leading a life of discomfort in refugee camps, they, unlike in the past, observed the festival in a low key.

Instead of decorations and fanfare, high police presence in and around their camps deployed for ensuring security was manifest in the area this year.

Unlike previous years Christmases, it was a normal day for the victims as they went about their routine in the area.

Modi halts temple demolitions

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has ordered to stop demolition of temples in the state with immediate effect. The move came after VHP President Ashok Singhal met him on Friday

The State Govt. has demolished nearly 200 temples along the city roads as part of its anti-encroachment drive, annoying saffron groups - VHP, Bajrang Dal and others - Hindu groups.

Even the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) had compared it to the plundering of temples by Mahmod of Ghazni in medieval India.

Hindu leaders warn to hold Orissa Bandh on Christmas day

Thousands of Hindus have warned that they would observe Orissa bandh on coming Christmas Day if the state government failed to arrest the killers of the VHP leader by December 15.

Despite a heavy downpour on Saturday morning, more than 50 thousands of Hindus from across Orissa gathered in Bhubaneswar for a rally called by Swami Lakshmanananda Saraswati Shradhanjali Samiti.

3 Gujarat VHP leaders grilled for defamatory SMS

Three top VHP leaders of Gujarat were grilled by Gandhnagar police for sending defamatory mobile messages in the name of Chief Minister Narendra Modi and his government.

They are State general secretary Kaushik Mehta, Rajesh Shastri and Jagdish Dwivedi. They were grilled for over three hours.

Ashwin Patel is already in police custody. He was arrested on October 27. Police investigations revealed that the messages were sent from his mobile number.

"It was an attempt by the Modi government to harass the VHP leaders and humiliate Hindus," said Mehta after appearing before the police.

But the police denied such allegations saying that there was no question of anyone being harassed.

New Delhi, Nov 8 : The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has blamed the Central Government of being biased to Hindus caught in terrorist attack case.

Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Maharashtra has arrested Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur for her suspected involvement in September 29 blasts in Malegaon, in which five people were killed.

The ATS arrested five people including Hindu activists and two retired army officials for their suspected role in the blast.

Judicial probe begins into Kandhamal violence

Bhubaneswar, Oct 18 : The judicial investigation into the Kandhamal violence in Orissa has begun.

A one-man Commission headed by a retired judge of Orissa High Court, Sarat Chandra Mohapatra, is probing the incident.

Justice Mohapatra has held initial discussions with district officials and senior police officers in Phulbani before proceeding to the Jaleshapata Ashram, where Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati and four of his aides were found dead on August 23.

Police prevented the entry of a a group of senior Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal leaders from visiting Kandhamal on Friday 17th of October. Bhubaneswar, Sept 4 : Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Praveen Togadia’s proposed yatra carrying the ashes of slain Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati throught Orissa will not be allowed assured the State’s Government told the Supreme Court on Thursday.

A bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan, directed the state government to ensure that no untoward incident takes place in riot-hit Kandhamal District.

The Orissa government said prohibitory orders under section-144 have been clamped in the area.

The violence was sparked in communally sensitive area when on Saturday about 30 heavily armed men raided a Hindu religious home housing mostly orphans in the rural Kandhamal district and killed five people, including a religious leader Swami Lakshmananda linked to VHP and opposed to conversion of tribals to Christianity.

Orissa Govt admits 558 houses, 17 places of worship torched during riots

Bhubaneswar, Sep 1 : The Orissa Government today said that over 558 houses and 17 places of worship have been burnt in communal riots following the murder of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati''s on August 23.

The government further claimed that the situation in Kandhamal and elsewhere in Orissa was under control.

After a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Chief Secretary Ajit Kumar Tripathy said, “While 543 houses were burnt in the worst hit Kandhamal district,
15 houses had been set ablaze in Gajapati district.”

Asian rights body claims that over 50 killed in Orissa

New Delhi, Aug. 29 : The Asian Centre for Human Rights (ACHR) today claimed that over 50 persons, mainly Christians, have been killed since the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists launched an attack on Christians last week.

It said that the deaths followed the murder of four of VHP members, including 90-year-old Laxmananda Saraswati by unidentified gunmen on August 23, 2008.

New Delhi, Aug 21 : Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Pravin Togadia and some Delhi BJP lawmakers were among hundreds of activists, arrested temporarily today for demanding the transfer of land to the Amarnath shrine.

Togadia led over 1,000 activists in a protest march at Rajouri Garden in West Delhi today, a senior police official said.

About 7,000 activists reportedly took part in the ''Jail Bharao'' agitation, claimed VHP leader, Vinod Bansal.

VHP rejects Government’s claim that Lord Rama destroyed Ram Sethu

Coimbatore, July 28 : The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has rubbished the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government’s assertion before the Supreme Court that the Ram Sethu or Adam’s bridge had been destroyed by Lord Ram himself.

The VHP’s International President Ashok Singhal told media persons, the fact that Lord Ram destroyed the bridge is not mentioned anywhere in the Kamba Ramayan.
